Since 1985, the MTA has authorized any person to create art and music in the New York City subway. Still, due to a lack of NYPD training and a widespread misconception that a "permit" is required, performers are regularly harassed, ejected, ticketed, and arrested.
If you are a musician, an artist, or one of the four million MTA riders who appreciate a daily dose of city culture, it's time for you to support us. Together, we defend performers who face ejection, ticketing, and arrest. We advocate for their rights in the media, in the community, and in city government. And we put together events that feature the deep contribution of subway performance to New York City's collective fabric. Join us today as a supportive audience member, a volunteer, or a contributor.
